Glorieta Adventure Camps is looking for someone with a strong work ethic and a desire to live and work in a close community to serve in the much-needed role of Utility Technician. We are seeking an individual to work under the direct supervision of a certified operator to assist with activities at the wastewater treatment plant, water system, collection system, propane, and electrical distribution networks. COMMUNITY The makeup of our community determines a large part of what it is like to live and work here. We have about 120 people who live on-site year-round, comprised of: full-time staff, staff families, and seasonal staff. Glorieta is a beautiful place with many natural resources but calls for somewhat remote living.
Job Purpose: To fulfill our mission of inspiring Christ-like change by creating a distraction-free experience for the guests. Assisting the management of the various aspects of the Utility Department. Performing routine daily, weekly, and monthly tasks, and developing greater strengths in the utility field with an emphasis on water & wastewater operation. This integral position keeps our plant functioning properly and helps us maintain safe water standards in line with state and federal laws. All with the overall purpose of taking care of our staff and guests physical water needs allowing them space to experience life-change.
Overall Responsibility and Expectations
Ensure and maintain compliance with all organizational policies and procedures as well as state and federal laws during employment Perform daily wastewater plant activities including raking bar screen, checking grit chamber, performing rounds, and engaging in maintenance/repair projects Perform installation, repair, maintenance, cleaning, and housekeeping duties as needed Assist in maintenance checks, sampling, troubleshooting, and composting activities Assist with propane and utility locating duties and other maintenance needs as needed Develop a working knowledge of safety considerations including excavation hazards, confined spaces, electrical and mechanical, hazardous chemicals, noise, physical hazards, and infectious materials
Character, Education, Abilities, Skills, Experience:
The “ideal” candidate will have:
High school diploma or GED The ability to work with independence A strong mind for troubleshooting and problem solving A strong desire to build, replace, and maintain an ageing infrastructure The ability to perform routine tasks and checks in a timely manner Working knowledge of the operation, methods, and procedures of utility work with an emphasis on being a water/wastewater operator Working knowledge of the machinery used for excavation and construction Working knowledge of mechanical equipment and preventative maintenance and repair The desire and ability to test for the New Mexico Wastewater Operator certification Current driver’s license and ability to drive company vehicles as needed A personal relationship with Christ that permeates all aspects of their life Other Duties of ALL Glorieta Staff: We operate year-round. We have guests on the premises almost every day of the year. Serving guests is our number one priority, and therefore ALL staff must participate in guest service in some capacity. Tasks may include cooking, cleaning, facilitating group activities, running retail locations, general maintenance of camp property, and work projects as needed. There are often groups here on weekends, and all staff members will be required to work certain weekends and overtime as needed.
Work Context: This job will be performed primarily on location in Glorieta, New Mexico. Travel: Possible travel for training or other organizational needs. Work Environment: This position requires office, building, excavations, and outdoor fieldwork. Training: All employees will be given the opportunity for improvement through appropriate training. Compensation: Hourly pay including overtime, onsite housing, medical sharing benefit at $0 to employee, 401(k) retirement package after one year, and paid vacation time. Preferred Minimum Commitment: 24 months
