Development Director - Assistant Director (aka Fundraising Director or Friendraising Director)
Overview Camp JIM (Jesus Is Mine), in Pillager, MN, is a Youth and Family Camp dedicated to teaching and modeling the gospel of Jesus Christ in fun ways, and encouraging people to grow in faith and service. Founded in 1932, we pride ourselves on building strong relationships with individuals and our community to evangelize and disciple those we serve. We are a place for people to have fun and meet God!
Ministry Position Purpose As the Development Director (DD) your primary focus is ensuring our Non-Profit Camp stays true to its mission, vision, policies, and core values in regards to all fundraising operations and donor relationships. The DD should be relationally focused, and will build on current connections while developing new ones. As an Assistant Director, you will also help with development and execution of strategies in areas of planning, project management, staff development, financial oversight, and overall professional and spiritual leadership of Camp JIM as a whole.
Since we can't hire Jesus directly, we are looking for the next closest person to join our team in an exciting growth season of Camp's history. :)
Qualifications: - You have a passion for the camping ministry and people, and have a sincere desire to see the camping ministry used for God’s glory - Ability to successfully run fundraising programs - Bachelors Degree preferred or work experience equivalent - 2-5+ years or more of progressive leadership experience, preferably in in development of a faith based, non-profit organization - Highly spiritual and moral individual in all affairs, with the ability to build genuine relationships with donors and stakeholders - Excellent interpersonal communication skills both written and verbal - Flexible and innovative, able to balance multiple projects, work effectively under pressure, and apply strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills - Strong team leader with demonstrated leadership abilities to work collaboratively and professionally in all interactions and with a high degree of confidentiality
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Fundraising: • Develop and execute our ministry's plans and strategies for cultivating and stewarding current donor relationships while identifying, qualifying, and adding new supporters of Camp JIM, all while protecting our organization against mission drift • Spend time fostering and investing in relationships with a diverse audience of individuals, churches, and other organizations that share our purpose of reaching youth and families for Christ • Take ownership of all fundraising department activities including scheduling and execution of in-person, phone, email, mailers, and print communications with our donor base to meet budgeted, targeted, and measured goals • Speak at varied churches, plan and lead fundraising events with the team, and often be the face of Camp JIM promoting us to the community (Locally traveling approx. 40% of the time) • Coordinate acceptance of donations along with necessary paperwork
Leadership: • As an Assistant Director, you will help guide and develop our small staff team, and potentially oversee, or contribute to, one or more departments (Educational Ministries, Media & Marketing, Program, Guest Ministries, Hospitality, Food Service, Maintenance, and/or Construction) along with completing your primary department responsibilities. • You enjoy leading by example, wearing many hats, and getting your hands dirty to accomplish what is needed at any given time • Participate in planning, developing, and executing our vision, strategies, and short and long term aspirations to guide our organization and ministry • Help foster effective teamwork and community between the Executive Director, yourself, and F/T, P/T, Seasonal, and volunteer staff • Participate in Board Meetings to help develop and learn from members and present activity reports to them • Take part in professional and spiritual coaching, development, and assessments of staff and programs to maintain a healthy Camp environment • Assume Executive Director responsibilities when needed • Be flexible and available to handle opportunities that arise (sometimes being on-call)
Additional Responsibilities: • During the summer, you will be part of the oversight and execution of our weekly youth camps • You will lead, assist, and participate in the execution of Camp JIM Events (depending on your strengths you might be helping speak, lead small groups or devotions, lead or assist in meal services, interact with Campers, lead activities, help clean and turn-over Camp for next groups, etc.) • Serve on a rotation for hosting and serving rental groups visiting Camp JIM • Depending on skill set and abilities, you may take on other responsibilities that you are proficient at, enjoy, and that benefit the Camp JIM team as a whole • Assist in risk management, project management, and other cost saving undertakings of Camp
Personal characteristics: - Has a sincere love for the Lord and a desire to see campers come to know and grow in Him - Desires to serve Jesus Christ as part of a team. Is able to work with campers and staff members in a cooperative, flexible and encouraging manner - Able to lead others in love and grace with persistence - Is eager to learn and shows a consistent walk with God. Is willing to forego personal rights for the common good of the camp and campers - Has ability to relate and interact positively with volunteers and guests - Has ability to supervise and get along well with others. Must be able to effectively observe, evaluate and communicate - Understands that the Camping Ministry sometimes requires a lot of weekend work, flexibility in schedule and tasks, and long hours to manage effectively (particularly through the summer), and is someone capable of thriving physically, emotionally, and spiritually in such environments - Is moral and ethical in all personal and business-related matters. By nature is a self-starter and must have discipline in management of work time. Observes what needs to be done with a sense of responsibility to see it through - Flexible to be available as needed when the inevitable breakdown occurs and can figure it out with a positive attitude, even on a day off. work Ahead days will be provided per camp policy to help. - Should be in good physical health (able to lift 50+lbs.) - Neat and clean in practice and appearance. - Is in complete agreement with Camp JIM's policies, mission and statement of faith
Compensation & Benefits:
• $40-$45,000/year salary (DOE) and additional ability to also raise some personal support income • 401 (k) with 3% matching • PTO - 10 Days of paid vacation and additional sick days starting first year • Work Life Balance • Paid time off for some spiritual development activities • Paid time off and some resources for professional development and support raising • Working with the finest Christian Camp in all the world, if we don't say so ourselves!
