Summer Staff Recreation Leader

PURPOSE STATEMENT:
The purpose of the Summer Leadership is to be a servant leader amongst peers in order to maximize the experience of the guest and the effectiveness of Tejas as a ministry. This individual will serve as a vital member of our staff team, Team Two:Three. Putting others’ needs before our own, both in our relationships within the team and in accommodating our guests, striving to always count others as more significant than ourselves in accordance with Philippians 2:3 “Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.”

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
We are looking for enthusiastic, Jesus-loving students who have a heart for serving the Lord. The Summer Leadership, as a team, will assist in leading their peers throughout the summer as it relates to living in community and recreational activities. This person will serve alongside the Tejas team in fulfilling the Tejas mission of setting the stage for Jesus to transform lives. This is accomplished by exemplifying our core values:
People: viewing everyone as an image-bearer of Jesus
Service: as a means for sharing the Gospel
Adventure: as a relational catalyst, and
Safety: as an integral part of People, Service and Adventure

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Rec Zone Leader Responsibilities
Obtain site specific challenge course certification in order to assist in operating our adventure elements for guests, including Top of Tower, Lifeguard and First Aid certifications
Be the point person for assigned recreation zones including answering questions or concerns, preparing and setting up rec areas, providing breaks, etc.
Lead the daily pre-rec meeting and group prayer for your zone
Ensure all staff have arrived to your zone and document timeliness
Provide a high degree of welcoming, detail-oriented service to guests and staff
Collaborate with Tejas staff to facilitate guests activities
Communicate any needs or concerns to the Recreation Coordinator
When not assigned as a zone leader, you will work at a rec allocation under the direction of another zone leader
Act as team player, assisting in all areas as needed

Community Responsibilities
Ensure roommates are in room by curfew
Maintain a clean living space with your roommates
Oversee that group hangouts are in authorized areas
Assist Summer Staff in adhering to all staff policies
Maintain a positive and encouraging attitude, shutting down gossip
Communicate any needs or concerns to the Summer Staff Manager
Optional: Lead a Small Group Bible Study

QUALIFICATIONS:
Flexibility and the ability to respond in grace when unforeseen situations arise
Ability to maintain relationships with all guests and staff
Willing and able to be ropes, lifeguard, CPR, and First Aid certified
A desire to grow spiritually, personally and professionally
An understanding of hospitality and guest experience
High level of responsibility, initiative, and trustworthiness
A commitment to adhere to all staff policies
