Head Cook Job Description Responsible to: Food Service Manager Time: Full-Time during Summer Season
Qualifications: - Active in a local church, holy lifestyle, committed to ministry. - Must be 18 years of age or older. - High school diploma or equivalent required. - Excellent organizational skills; ability to multi-task and manage a variety of tasks. - Kitchen experience of at least 6 months preferred, but not required. - Prior experience cooking food for large groups preferred, but not required. Capability to prepare quality meals for groups of up to 160 people. - Hold a current ServSafe® Manager Certification(or equivalent) or the ability to complete food manager training. - Hold a current ServSafe® Food Allergens Certification or the ability to complete food allergen training. - Experience in supervising and giving direction to other workers. - Demonstrated ability to get along well with people and be “guest minded” at all times. - Alignment with our statement of beliefs and organizational essentials including shared core values, a sense of personal calling to our mission, a commitment to our vision. - Agree to live on site or within a reasonable daily commute to the camp property.
Specific Responsibilities: - Supervise employees and volunteers assigned to the food service area. - Produce quality and visually appealing meals for guests. - Maintain a clean and efficient kitchen under the direction of the Food Service Manager. - Coordinate with the Food Service Manager for menus, schedules, allergen needs, and special requests. - Responsibilities beyond the scope of this job description may be occasionally required.
Essential Functions: - Basic computer and internet skills, primarily for internal communication. - Proficiency in food service and kitchen equipment operation. - Be able to occasionally make shopping runs. - Ability to stand for long periods and lift or carry items 40 lbs. or less. - Visually identify hazards, needed repairs, and necessary cleaning throughout the kitchen, and be able to respond appropriately. - Be an advocate and fan of our camp.
Compensation and benefits: - Full time employment during the summer season with wages paid every 2 weeks, rate dependent on experience. Benefits: Meals included when food service is active. Overnight housing as required to fulfill your duties.
Expected work schedule: - Summer season work period is May 27 - July 14. - Typical summer week is 5 work days and 2 days off with some flexibility. Days off are usually grouped together, but Saturdays and Sundays are often required work days. - Daily schedules may vary.
