Drop-In Manager (Afterschool Youth Program Manager) Full Time Missionary Position Location: Nikiski, Alaska THE COMPASS OVERVIEW: THE COMPASS is a Christian faith-based youth ministry founded in 2017 and based in Nikiski, Alaska. We have an afterschool drop-in center where we serve around 40 middle and high school youth each day. We also have an outdoor program (Navigate Outdoors), creative arts (Creative Wanderings), life skills (Traverse Life), community service (Pioneer Together), career and education (Plot Your Course), and faith-based program (True North). Our mission is to “Encourage, equip, and empower Youth of Alaska by building healthy relationships, teaching practical life skills, and by sharing the love of Jesus.”
POSITION OVERVIEW: THE COMPASS is looking for an energetic, relational, and passionate individual for the position of Drop-In Manager. This person will be working with youth daily, planning activities, classes, and coordinating with the Program Manager to plan programs during drop-in. You will also help recruit, schedule, and lead drop-in staff, volunteers, and student volunteers. Excellent teamwork and communication are vital for this role as you will be working closely with students, adult volunteers, parents, and other staff.
QUALIFICATIONS: The Drop-In Manager needs to have a heart most importantly for following Jesus and a passion to work with, encourage, and disciple teens. Individuals must be self-motivated, have a strong work ethic, exceptional leadership, attention to detail, and very good time management, communication, and organizational skills. Personal integrity, a servant attitude, and a willingness to work through challenges and be adaptable are also necessary. Bible camp, youth ministry, or afterschool youth program experience is desired. Applicants will be expected to agree with and support the mission, vision, values, and Statement of Faith of the organization. RESPONSIBILITIES: • Plan, organize, and execute afterschool drop-in center activities. • Work with and build relationships with youth on a daily basis. • Recruit, schedule, and supervise drop-in staff and volunteers. • Ensure equipment and supplies are available, well maintained, and safe. • Develop a positive working relationship with volunteers and other staff. • Manage a team with a diverse array of age, talents, and responsibilities. • Develop a budget and operating plan for the afterschool drop-in center. • Coordinate with program manager for program classes and activities. • Assess strengths and identify areas for improvement. • Ensure goals are met in areas of safety, quality, and staff/volunteer performance.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HOURS: The Drop-In Manager position is full-time, with a work schedule that will generally be Monday through Friday. THE COMPASS youth ministry is located in Nikiski, Alaska.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: This is a missionary support funded position. You will need to raise your own team of financial support. Training and coaching will be provided. Support raising time (deputation), coaching, vacation days, holidays and sick time will be provided. Must be able to pass child safety training and background check.
