Lead Food Services Manager / Weekend Chef

Job Summary: The Food Service Manager is responsible for overall food service operation including purchasing, inventory management, preparation, service and sanitation while managing the upkeep of the lodge and dining hall food facilities.

Role: The primary purpose of this position is to manage all aspects of the food experience for Summit Grove. This primarily includes managing all aspects of weekend food services, including menu preparation, budgeting, food cost analysis, purchasing, food preparation and serving, cooking, cleanup, training, and coordinating of any volunteers needed. During the Fall, Winter, and Spring seasons, these duties fall primarily on weekends or as-needed throughout the week for groups of 15 – 60 people. During the Summer season, these duties may extend to weekdays and the management of weekday food service volunteers and staff, for groups of 15 – 250 people.

Characteristics: Desired characteristics include being organized with attention to detail, reliable, flexible, hospitable, a problem solver, and a team player. Must be able to communicate effectively and professionally. Guest-oriented and friendly.

Skills:
• 3+ years of culinary experience in a large food service setting
• Former experience working at a camp or retreat center in a food service role preferred

Qualifications:
• Committed Christian, active in their church, and growing in faith.
• Organized, has initiative, creativity, and attitude of service.
• Flexible schedule
• ServSafe certification preferred
• Ability to drive to nearby locations for food purchasing

Major Responsibilities
• Coordinate with Guest Services Manager to prepare meals for guests and groups
• Own all aspects of the menu planning and food ordering process
• Manage all aspects of the meal prep and meal service
• Prepare and serve all meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) during weekends and occasional weekdays
• Manage the Snack Shack during large outdoor events
• Clean up meals, put away leftovers, and supervise kitchen and dining room cleanup
• Train and direct food services volunteers and staff
• Supervise and double-check work done by food staff
• Kitchen planning, research, and cost analysis
• Maintain and build relationships with vendors, food banks, and kitchen suppliers to ensure cost-efficiency
• Keep stock and inventory of both kitchens (Dining Hall and Lodge Kitchen)

Summit Grove is a year-round camp and conference center. This is a part-time, as-needed position, with most hours being held during the summer season. Based on demands and seasonal activity, this position has the potential to move toward a regular, part-time position.

Physical Demands: Able to lift 25-pounds and help move bulky or large items as needed. The physical effort typically applied in this job includes: Lifting, Carrying, Reaching, Pulling, Pushing, Stooping, Standing, Bending, Speaking, and Listening.

Reports to: Primary: Guest Services Manager | Secondary: Executive Director
Compensation/Benefits: Paid hourly, depending on skills and experience
Time: Part-time, as needed (mostly as-needed weekends, with occasional as-needed weekdays)
