Position Description: General Store Clerk

Reports to: General Store Supervisor

FLSA Status: Part-time, Non-exempt (hourly wage)


Job Summary
Individual is responsible for a wide range of comprehensive, hands on, and customer service needs in the General Store. Required to interact with guests face-to-face in a fast-paced environment, remaining flexible and pleasant.

Must have the ability to make decisions with the overall “customer experience” in mind. Individual is expected to work in a team environment and independently to meet the various demands and time sensitive issues of stocking, cleaning and inventory while always being available to guests.


Organizational Strategy
-Provide professional, efficient, gracious and thorough services to all guests;
-Providing visitors with general knowledge regarding Hume Lake Christian Camps and the surrounding areas;
-Ability to project a friendly attitude; work with a variety of ages and personalities, and with a diverse group of internal staff and guests;
-Proper handling of all systems in the General Store: POS/RMS register, Gilbraco Fuel System, California Fish & Game computer system;
-Ability to dispense propane as needed;
-Oversee fountain area, including stocking, cleaning, rotation of bibs and CO2 tanks;
-Product handling includes but not limited to: stocking, proper rotation of date sensitive product, organization of back stock, etc.;
-Overall cleaning of the store including but not limited to: daily needs, monthly deep cleaning list, proper cleanup of spills with the safety of guests in mind, dumping trash cans, keeping back trash area neat, keeping backroom clean, coolers clean, breaking down of cardboard for easy disposal, etc.;
-Daily maintenance/cleaning at the fuel pumps; filling of paper towels, water, receipt paper, proper cleanup and disposal of hazardous spills;
-Knowledge of items that are not to be sold to campers due to safety and/or prank issues;
-Familiarization with equipment and coolers enough to be able to spot problems and make Supervisor aware of possible operating issues i.e. cooler temperatures.
-Troubleshoot customer service issues with sensitivity;
-Some ordering responsibilities as needed;
-Check in deliveries;
-Transfer out out-of-date product;
-Maintain pricing on shelves and/or product;
-Help with annual physical inventory at the end of the year;
-Maintain stock and handling of money from vending machines in four locations;
-Opening procedure of the store; which includes but is not limited to: opening safe, turning on registers, prepare coffee corner, etc.;
-Closing procedures of register which includes but is not limited to: daily X-reports, close out of daily/weekly sales, justification of all monies on Z-report, cash drops of large sums, making change with safe monies, etc.;
-Closing procedures of fuel pumps daily, entering into POS system.

-Evidenced commitment to the Christian faith and a desire to share the knowledge of Jesus Christ with others;
-Able to agree with our Statement of Belief and abide by our Code of Conduct;
-Commitment to excellence and attention to detail;
-Manage and utilize camp resources with biblical view toward stewardship;
-Willingness to adjust hours to accommodate the needs of the job.


Specific Qualifications
-Cash drawer management- from rudimentary skills such as counting out change, making change, etc., to the responsible handling of large sums of money;
-Thorough attention to detail;
-The ability to learn computer systems quickly and efficiently;
-Professional oral communication skills;
-Ability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions;
-Ability to work in a team environment;
-Can thrive during a heavy workload.


Physical Demands
-Must be able to live and work in extreme weather conditions;
-Must be able to lift and/or move up to 45 pounds;
-Must be able to live at high altitude and in small living quarters.


Other
-Customer service and sales experience preferred;
-Previous experience with RMS/POS system preferred;
-Perform other related duties and assignments as required;
-Hume Lake maintains the right to reassign or change duties as required;
