Director of Summer Camp Ministries

This position is critical to the ministry of Sky Ranch and contributes directly to our mission of leading youth and families to know and follow Christ. The Summer Camp Director is responsible for the culture, development and execution of the overnight Summer Camp Ministry content, programs, campers and summer staff management. This role must develop and deliver curriculum and teaching consistent with Sky Ranch’s LifeMap. This role is accountable for both the Summer Staff and overnight Summer Camp camper experience. The Director of Summer Camp Ministries also provides support for their direct reports, operations teams on each corresponding site, sales and marketing teams of Sky Ranch.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide leadership and direction of full-time direct reports as well as professional growth and development coaching and opportunities.
Develop and communicate goals and objectives
Monitor, evaluate, and provide constructive feedback and direction to direct reports.
Conduct annual performance and ongoing evaluation.
Accountable for Sky Ranch’s Summer Staff experience
Lead the recruitment process of our 850+ summer staff on all sites.
Support in hiring process and placement of summer staff on all sites.
Assists Operations Teams on each site to provide a quality and effective staff training experience.
Oversee the leading, evaluating and discipling of summer staff during their employment with us.
Ensuring Sky Ranch stays up to date on best practices for hiring, leading and investing in our summer staff
Responsible for overnight Summer Camp campers experience and care
Assisting in supporting our campers and families as needs arise in the summer and throughout the year
Give oversight as needed and if necessary, respond in a reasonable manner to camper families’ survey results, requests, and concerns.
Provide leadership to all overnight Summer Camp programs
Develop and execute staff training curriculum for full time and summer staff for effective ministry.
Work with all operations teams to plan, organize, and execute camp programs.
Provide an active presence at all summer camp locations throughout the summer.
Prepare and manage budgets for overnight summer camp programs ensuring timely response to the accounting department.
Develop summer theme and drive execution of summer videos as needed
Coordinate and train teachers and content deliverers for ministry moments during summer camp programs.
Oversee development by giving final approval for content/resource archive for parents, campers and staff.
Implement a process of organizational planning that evaluates process, procedure, design, forecasting, and structure for the camp ministry.
Develop and execute Sky Ranch’s vision and strategic objectives as a member of the Global Leadership Team.


OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain compliance with Sky Ranch’s employee policies and procedures.
Maintain compliance with all state and federal laws and regulatory requirements.
Perform other duties as required.

FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Budget and Summer Camp program.


QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree in camp/sport leadership, business or Christian ministries is preferred.


EXPERIENCE
At least four years of experience in camp ministry in a full-time leadership role.


KNOWLEDGE
Detailed understanding of the field of summer camp ministry through experience and research.
Knowledge of principles and processes for providing excellent customer service, including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
Strong working ability to use various office software including, but not limited to, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
Basic internet and social media skills.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to effectively manage staff in areas such as: selection, development, coaching, motivation, scheduling, and performance evaluation.
Excellent leadership skills necessary to appropriately influence people to achieve a desired outcome.
Ability to hire, train and motivate team members.
Ability to relate positively, influentially, and sensitively to a broad spectrum of persons in a variety of multi-tiered relationships and settings to include but not limited to guests (youth and families), clergy and staff of various Christian churches and organizations of all sizes, cultural identities and worship styles, co-workers, peers, and board members.
Proven successful leadership experience; ability to build unity amongst a team and motivate them to work together toward a common mission.
Excellent interpersonal skills, and relationship building skills. Ability to plan, manage, and report budgets proficiently. Exceptional financial management skills.
Ability to provide strategic and logistical planning and facilitate meetings, conferences, workshops, and/or retreats as required.
Ability to investigate and analyze information and draw conclusions.
Ability to prepare moderately complex reports.
Ability to exercise independent thinking and initiative.
Ability to deal with complex situations or issues and make effective, timely and appropriate decisions.
Excellent organizational skills: ability to multi-task and manage a variety of tasks.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to communicate the vision of Sky Ranch to both internal and external customers.

EXTERNAL CONTACTS
Guests, families, University contacts, and vendors.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to use up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects.
Ability to grasp, push, pull, carry, or otherwise manipulate objects; ability to perform tasks requiring action of muscles or groups of muscles and foot and/or hand-eye coordination.
Requires some physical agility, including but not limited to bending for items below or reaching for items above the individual; crawling under desks; stooping, and climbing step stools or ladder.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Works indoors in normal office environment majority of the time; works outdoors most of the time in the summer.
Ability to travel to various geographic locations, including travel by car, and some overnight stays including weekends.

OTHER
Commitment to Christian principles and teachings both professionally and personally. Must be able to fully support Sky Ranch’s Doctrinal Statement. An active membership in a church whose spiritual beliefs are aligned with Sky Ranch’s Doctrinal Statement.

Must demonstrate annually a clear background check and review of child safety practices as required for camp accreditation by the American Camping Association.

Possess personal spiritual discipline that models a proactive approach toward personal, spiritual, and relational health.
