Facilities Director

Camp Ray Bird has a 100+ year history of serving the low-income families, children, and teens of the greater South Bend area. Situated on Bass Lake on the far west side of South Bend, Indiana, each year 800+ campers are served through the summer camp program followed by opportunities for year-round discipleship.

The Facilities Director oversees the maintenance, upkeep and improvement of all facilities, equipment, buildings, grounds and facilities projects of Camp Ray Bird.

Commitment to the mission of Camp Ray Bird as a Christian camp. A personal commitment to a relationship with Jesus Christ, regular involvement with a local church and a demonstrated desire to grow as a follower of Christ. Understanding of the Bible and commitment to the integration of faith into their work with all stakeholders of Camp Ray Bird. This position requires shepherding and discipling of young adult staff members.

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/SKILLS

High School Diploma or GED. Relevant college or trade school a plus.
Experience in facilities management is preferred.
Knowledge of safety procedures appropriate to duties.
Proficient working knowledge of a variety of tools, from hand tools to power tools.
Excellent communication skills and understanding of guests’ needs.
Proficiency with managing a budget.
Outstanding organizational and time management skills with attention to detail.
Demonstrated skills in effective project management.
Ability to work with team members in a manner that builds mutual trust, respect, accountability and cooperation.
Ability to think creatively to problem solve.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage all facilities on camp grounds including: developing a plan for maintenance and improvement projects and monitoring utility usage.
Oversee all groundskeeping including: mowing, leaves, landscape improvements, trail maintenance, snow removal, etc.
Oversee all building maintenance and improvements including: basic carpentry, plumbing electrical and HVAC repairs, appliance troubleshooting & repair, ongoing maintenance (painting, etc.).
Oversee new building projects and existing building improvements. Design and budget planning for new projects. Project management to ensure projects are executed within specifications and set budgets.
Oversee vehicle, small equipment and waterfront maintenance, repairs, and replacement This includes, but is not limited to: go-carts, golf carts, mowers, tractor, trucks, boats, motors, canoes, docks/piers, low ropes, climbing wall, and other programing equipment.
Lead the summer staff maintenance team. This team is responsible for summer cleaning, maintenance projects, and summer groundskeeping.
Organize and oversee individuals and groups of facilities project volunteers.
Ensure compliance with State requirements (i.e. drinking water tests, swimming water tests, Forest Management Plan, etc.).
Participate in summer planning, leadership training, staff training, mini-camps, summer camp, etc.
Schedule and manage year-round cleaning of camp facilities including oversight of individual(s) hired to clean in off season for retreat groups.
Oversee A/V?setup and maintenance, computer and network setup, internet hosting, phone system and office equipment maintenance.
On-call for emergency repairs.
Other responsibilities as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Salary negotiable depending on experience.
Required on-site housing in a private single-family residence (utilities included)
Rhythm of position responsibilities varies by season with June – early August requiring 60-70 hrs/week.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

Much physical effort is required on a routine basis; the ability to use up to 50 pounds of force occasionally. Ability to grasp, push, pull, carry or otherwise manipulate objects; ability to perform tasks requiring action of muscles or groups of muscles and foot and/or hand-eye coordination. Work requires a lot of physical agility for doing the majority of assigned work, including but not limited to bending for items below or reaching for items above the individual; crawling, stooping, and climbing on ladders. Work varies from being outdoors in the elements of Northern Indiana, to sitting at a desk. Our summers are hot, our winters are cold. Most surfaces at camp are unpaved. Some exposure to physical risk while working on various projects.
