Full Time Caretaker/Maintenance Director

Cowboys Rest Christian Camp & Retreat Center is a non-denominational Christian camp located in the Ruby Mountains, 60 miles south of Elko, NV, on the historic site of a former Pony Express Station. The off-grid camp is set by a scenic reservoir.

At Cowboy’s Rest, we exist to provide a Christian camping experience in a rustic,
outdoor setting and to assist the local Church in encouraging and equipping her congregations.

Role
Cowboys Rest is looking to fill the role of Caretaker. Candidate must be self-
motivated and love the Lord. This individual will be responsible for facilities and
upkeep of a ranch style camp. This is a 6-mo. position followed by reassessment.

Responsibilities
- Maintenance: plan and execute maintenance on camp vehicles/tractor/small
engine equipment, exterior property fences, up-keep of diesel generators and
solar panels, pest control, well water management, other associated tasks
- Activities Facilitation: paintball, waterslide, challenge course, plinking range,
archery, climbing wall
- Summer: organize and lead teams of staff in daily facilities/housekeeping
activities, mow lawns, support operations of camp, create an environment for
guests to deepen their faith
- Retreat Season: Kitchen support, housekeeping, provide a good experience for
guests to learn about Christ, groundskeeping
- Winter: preparing buildings for snow, collect firewood, snow removal, driveway
and road repair, feeding and pasturing cows
- Weekly staff meeting

Special Considerations
- Must pass a background check and have references
- Attend a local Christian church (town visits weekly are strongly encouraged)
- Discipleship from a Christian mentor

Working Conditions

- Cowboys Rest hosts summer camps for elementary to high school students, with
seasonal staff filling roles like counselors and lifeguards. Retreat seasons in
spring and fall are volunteer-supported and involve weekend stays with facility
use and meal preparation. In winter and during retreat seasons, the focus shifts
to long-term maintenance and facility upkeep, with less intensity than summer
camps.

- Hours will vary with season, but 50 hrs./week is average
