Activities Manager

This position is critical to the ministry of Sky Ranch and contributes directly to our mission of leading youth and families to know and follow Christ. The Activities Manager serves in a leadership role managing day-to-day activity operations and safety. The Activities Manager will train and supervise all activity staff members and assistants. The position assists in the development and achievement of the camp’s objectives and will also be involved in assuring compliance with various state and federal requirements. Safety consciousness and activity policies and procedures will be developed and maintained by the Activities Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee all aspects of the Activities Department, including managing the departmental budget.
Establish timelines and priorities for department and staff.
Ensure that all activities are safely prepared for guests, addressing areas such as equipment, adequate staffing, weather concerns, and policy compliance.
Collaborate with Program Managers to develop the activity schedule.
Ensure Sky Ranch standards of excellence are met or exceeded.
Maintain records of activity procedures, staff training, inspections, and maintenance conducted.
Manage activities staff to include interns, part-time retreat staff, and seasonal/summer staff.
Coordinate activity training and safety trainings, ensuring that all activity staff are properly prepared and certified.
Anticipate needs and procure all necessary equipment and supplies for activities year-round.
Facilitate meetings, as needed, with the Activity Committee; a group of directors and managers who help set the vision for activities across the camp and allocate capital funds to ensure all departmental needs.
Work with the camp director to develop and implement the annual budget.
Serve as a member of the Horn Creek leadership team.
Maintain team adherence to all activity policies and procedures and conduct regular in-service trainings.
Manage recruitment for all activities positions throughout the year, in advance of need and within budget.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Meet regularly with Sky Ranch’s Activities Director to report on accomplishments, plans and needs, and to obtain support and guidance for the overall success of the camp Activities Department.
Recommend process and procedural improvements.
Prepare and proofread letters, memos, and other correspondence on an accurate and timely basis.
Maintain compliance with Sky Ranch’s employee policies and procedures.
Maintain compliance with all state and federal laws and regulatory requirements.
Perform other duties as required.

FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Manage departmental budget and ordering of equipment and supplies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION
College degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE
A minimum of two years of experience in activity facilitation.
One year or more of staff supervision experience preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Certified or able to be certified in activities such as challenge courses, ziplines, climbing walls, archery, riflery, first aid and CPR, and lifeguarding. Current and valid driver’s license is required.
KNOWLEDGE
On-staff experience in the field of camping or hospitality.
Knowledge of principles and processes for providing excellent customer service. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
Experience in the field of challenge courses, water safety, and shooting safety.
Proficient working knowledge and ability to use various office software including, but not limited to, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Basic internet and social media skills.

Excellent leadership skills necessary to appropriately influence people to achieve a desired outcome.
Ability to relate positively, influentially, and sensitively to a broad spectrum of persons in a variety of multi-tiered relationships and settings to include, but not limited to, guests (youth and parents), clergy and staff of various Christian churches and organizations of all sizes, cultural identities and worship styles, co-workers and peers.
Excellent interpersonal skills and relationship building skills, including encouraging and building mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members.
Ability to investigate and analyze information and draw conclusions.
Ability to prepare moderately complex reports.
Ability to exercise independent thinking and initiative.

Ability to effectively facilitate meetings as required.
Excellent organizational skills: ability to multi-task and manage a variety of tasks.
Excellent, professional written communication skills. Ability to speak clearly in face-to-face interactions; to articulate with accuracy on the telephone and through e-mail. Excellent listening skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to communicate the vision and values of Sky Ranch to both internal and external customers.

IMPACT ON EQUIPMENT AND PROPERTY
Responsible for professionally maintaining the environment, structures, and equipment for all activity areas.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Above average physical effort required.
Ability to use up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently to move objects.
Ability to grasp, push, pull, carry, or otherwise manipulate objects; ability to perform tasks requiring action of muscles or groups of muscles and foot and/or hand-eye coordination.
Requires complete physical agility, including but not limited to bending for items below or reaching for items above the individual; crawling under equipment; stooping, and climbing step stools or ladders.
Ability to travel to various geographic locations, including travel by car, and some overnight stays including weekends.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Works indoors in normal office environment 25% of the time and indoor activity areas and outdoors 75% of the time.
Elevated exposure to physical risk such as working at higher elevations, working in pools, and leading physical sporting and challenge course activities.

OTHER
Commitment to Christian principles and teachings both professionally and personally. Must be able to fully support Sky Ranch’s Doctrinal Statement. An active membership in a church whose spiritual beliefs are aligned with Sky Ranch’s Doctrinal Statement.

Must demonstrate annually a clear background check and review of child safety practices as required for camp accreditation by the American Camping Association.

Compensation: $32,000.00 - $38,000.00 per year
