Outdoor Education School Administrator

Established in 1910, Michindoh Conference Center was originally part of the Church of the United Brethren in Christ until it was gifted to Spring Arbor University in June 2009. Located in Hillsdale, Michigan, on 250 acres of rolling hills, wetlands, and a private spring-fed lake, Michindoh serves as a conference center, outdoor education school, and Christian camp. The center has a bed capacity of over 750, with an additional 250 seasonal accommodations in the Harmony Springs Western Village and a 29-site RV park. It also features multiple large gym spaces and a variety of recreational activities for its programs and guest groups.

Michindoh’s Outdoor Education School serves approximately 6,000 students and educators each year. Children from both public and private schools participate in a resident camp program focused on teaching natural science, biology, history, cooperative living, and team building in the beautiful setting of our outdoor classroom. While the curriculum is secular, the program aims to model Christian values to students and invite them to return in the summer for our evangelistic camps, which are offered at a significantly subsidized cost to outdoor education school alumni.

The Outdoor Education School Administrator oversees the delivery of a high-quality Outdoor Education Program. Responsibilities include recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating OES staff while providing ongoing support. Additionally, the administrator serves as a liaison for schools, assisting both before and during their time at camp. As needed, the administrator will teach classes and lead evening programs. Another key focus is increasing school participation through strategic marketing and networking with teachers and administrators.

A strong candidate will have at least a bachelor's degree, with a master's degree preferred. They should also have experience in education and several years of leadership in youth camping and recreational programming. A strong personal faith in Jesus Christ and a desire to make Christ known to others through servant leadership and Christian community participation is a must.
