Camp Director

Cowboys Rest Camp & Retreat Center is a non-denominational Christian camp located in the heart of the Ruby Mountains on the historic property of a former Pony Express Station. The off-grid camp is situated on a picturesque reservoir 60 miles south of Elko, NV.
At Cowboy’s Rest, we exist to provide a Christian camping experience in a rustic,
outdoor setting and to assist the local Church in encouraging and equipping her
congregations.

Role:
Cowboys Rest is looking for a self-motivated individual who loves the Lord. This person will be responsible for organizing, leading, and promoting the camp to the local community.

Responsibilities:

Year-Round:
- Financial – Bank deposits, accountant communications, staff payroll, lead
operations and kitchen in purchasing/expensing, manage donations accounting
- Build community relationships – point of contact for church groups, guests,
staff/volunteers
- Run staff meetings – ensure spiritual engagement, monitor workload, promote
unity
- Board responsibilities – prepare financial updates and annual event schedule
(Board meetings: Fall and Spring, virtual by request)
Summer:
- Organize staff (assisted by program director) – trainings, camp schedules,
weekend activities, food, transport to town, housing, discipline
- Administrative Leader during camp – develop/implement safety plan, assist
program director in guest housing assignments, discipline campers (as needed)
Retreat Season (Spring and Fall):
- Identify, assign, and assist long-term projects
- Purchase food, cook, clean facilities, ensure guests have a comfortable
environment to connect with Christ
- Administrative – coordinate the newsletter with assistance from board president
and program director
- Upkeep – verify housing for guests, inspect grounds for safety/cleanliness, assist
winterizing/setup facilities in Fall/Spring

Off Season (Winter):
- Engage Community – Christian group/church visits, promote camp and share the
story of CR
- Support operations – repairs and upgrades
- Administrative - Write/update curriculum, yearly planning
Special Considerations
- Must pass a background check and have references
- Join a local Christian church (town visits weekly are strongly encouraged)
- Discipleship from a Christian mentor
- Actively in the Word of God
- Weekly staff meeting

Working Conditions

Cowboys Rest sponsors summer camps for elementary to high school students,
staffed primarily by college aged adults in roles like counselors, kitchen,
maintenance, lifeguards, recreation, housekeeping, speakers, and music. Summer
camps are followed by spring and fall retreats, staffed by volunteers and full-time
employees, focusing on facility use and meals. Retreat seasons and winter are
quieter, with an emphasis on long-term maintenance and facility upkeep.
