Food Service Director

Position Overview:
The Food Service Director is responsible for planning, preparing, and managing food service operations at Somerset Beach Campground. This includes overseeing meals during the busy summer camp season, serving 160+ people per meal, as well as providing exceptional food service year-round for retreats and other bookings. The role requires strong leadership, organizational skills, and a passion for hospitality.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Meal Planning and Preparation:
Create menus that are nutritious, balanced, and appealing to a diverse group of guests, including accommodating dietary restrictions and allergies.
Prepare and oversee the preparation of meals for summer camps, retreats, and other events.
2. Staff Management:
Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise kitchen staff and volunteers during the summer season and other busy periods.
Ensure a positive work environment and foster teamwork within the food service team.
3. Operational Oversight:
Manage the kitchen and dining facilities, ensuring cleanliness, organization, and compliance with health and safety regulations.
Maintain inventory of food, supplies, and equipment, placing orders as needed to avoid shortages or overstocking.
4. Budget Management:
Develop and manage the food service budget, monitoring costs to ensure operations remain financially sustainable.
Work with the campground director and leadership team to optimize cost efficiency without compromising quality.
5. Customer Service:
Provide a welcoming and accommodating atmosphere for campers, retreat participants, and other guests.
Address feedback and make improvements to enhance the guest dining experience.
6. Year-Round Responsibilities:
Plan and execute food service for off-season retreats, private events, and bookings.
Collaborate with the campground team to support marketing efforts and ensure a seamless guest experience.
7. Compliance:
Ensure all food preparation and service areas comply with local, state, and federal health and safety regulations.
Obtain and maintain ServeSafe Certification and ensure that all staff are trained in food safety protocols.
Conduct regular training to ensure staff compliance with sanitation and safety standards.
Qualifications:
Proven experience in food service management or a similar role, preferably in a camp or hospitality setting.
ServeSafe Certification (or willingness to obtain within 90 days of hire).
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a high-paced environment.
Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage and motivate a diverse team.
Knowledge of dietary needs, food allergies, and best practices for safe food preparation.
Budget management experience is a plus.

Working Conditions:
Requires long hours during the summer camp season, including weekends and holidays.
Year-round responsibilities include variable hours depending on retreat schedules and bookings.
Physical demands include standing for long periods, lifting supplies, and working in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
Reports To:
Campground Director
Compensation: 30-55k (based on experience)
Salary commensurate with experience. Meals are provided during work hours, with housing options available during peak seasons.
