High School Staff Leader (Crew Counselor)
Clydehurst hires 4 High School Staff Leaders each year: 2 male and 2 female. These leaders work together to oversee 18 high school staff members called the Crew. Typically, the 2 female Staff Leaders work over/with the 9-10 high school girls, and the 2 male Staff Leaders over/with the 9-10 high school boys though there is significant crossover in job responsibilities for both the male and female High School Staff Leaders as well as for the Crew themselves.
Some requirements for our High School Staff Leaders include: 1. Serve as both a work supervisor and a counselor (mentor) to 18 High School Crew. 2. Work supervision includes (but is not limited to): o Overseeing daily chores o Scheduling o Discipline and correction as needed o Assist in training the High School Crew o The majority of work for this position revolves around the Dining Hall and Kitchen as well as the Laundry, Shop (including automotive, metal and wood shops), and across the grounds. 3. Counseling/Mentoring includes (but is not limited to): o Planning and leading devotionals with a counterpart as well as within the team of 4 leaders o Providing wisdom and advice to the high school staff sometimes regarding sensitive issues and life problems o Mediating difficult relationships and conflicts that inevitably occur due to close proximity and living quarters o Developing appropriate and meaningful relationships with the high school staff as well as fostering friendships between the College Staff and the High School Crew in conjunction with the Assistand Program Directors o Ultimately both leading and serving their staff in such a way that exemplifies Jesus Christ 4. In many ways, this job is round-the-clock though the “work” side of it is more typical of a regular work day. High School Staff Leaders are expected to be available for and accessible to their staff as well as active in developing personal relationships with all of them individually and in group settings. 5. Interact meaningfully and selflessly in an intentional and authentic community by providing spiritual support for their peers through prayer, mutual friendships, and honest communication 6. General Expectations - Those applying for this position should very strongly demonstrate the following qualities which are also requirements for our College Counseling Staff and APDs. High School Staff Leaders should live out these expectations to such a degree that they stand well above their subordinates or, if they have been on staff at CCR or elsewhere in the past, stand out well above their peers. o Create a welcoming and hospitable environment for all staff and for campers of all ages, both inside respective areas of responsibility and at Clydehurst in general. This includes exercising wisdom and insight regarding campers and how to interact with each one and engaging in Christ-centered and impactful friendships with their campers. o Serve as a spiritual leader, which includes developing and implementing Bible-based devotionals and lesson plans, as well as finding opportunities to actively engage campers of all ages and other staff especially High School Crew in meaningful spiritual conversations o Interact meaningfully and selflessly in an intentional and authentic community by providing spiritual support for their peers, leaders and subordinates through prayer, mutual friendships, and honest communication
Requirement: Must have completed one year of college or one year of full-time work experience post high school.
Preference: Those who have worked previously at Clydehurst as College Counselors or as High School Crew.
