Retreats Director

Adventurous Christians is a rustic canoe tripping and retreat center in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness of Minnesota. We use wilderness and community to help people take the Next Step in their Christian faith. The Retreats Director is responsible for providing leadership for the Fall and Winter Retreat ministry of Adventurous Christians. AC’s long history of rustic minimalism, intentional programming, and small community creates space for learning and faith formation. We hope for someone who will embrace the unusual immersive nature of our wilderness retreat tradition. The Retreats Director will use the wilderness around us and the cozy nature of our facilities to encourage growth and provide respite to our participants. The job will include providing leadership and coordination for our Fall, Winter, and Spring retreats and the communication needed with participants all year round. The Retreats Director will be the primary trainer and vision setter for the Retreat Program staff. Throughout the year the Retreats Director and the Wilderness/Trips Director will work as a team to provide leadership for the following guest service areas: program planning, communication/registration, hiring, training, assignments/organization, equipment, and food service. All staff members participate in maintenance and hospitality services as needed. AC serves a variety of ages and Christian denominations.

This position requires an active and growing faith in Jesus Christ, demonstrated personal integrity, team leadership, consistent work ethic, attention to detail, follow through, healthy interpersonal communication skills, and a service-oriented attitude. Preferred qualifications also include a college degree and experience in a ministry, hospitality, and/or camp environment. Individuals must possess a desire to live and work in a remote wilderness setting with rustic housing (i.e. outhouses, communal kitchen, wood heated cabin).
