Hospitality & Activities Coordinator
Job Title: Hospitality and Activities Coordinator Organizational Relationship: Reports to Camp Director Department: Camp Experience Location: Whispering Winds Catholic Conference Center, Julian, CA Pay Rate: $16.50 - $20 per hour based on experience Position Type: Full Time, Non-exempt plus benefits, potential for optional onsite housing
Overview: Whispering Winds Camp is seeking a dedicated and service-oriented professional to oversee camp operations, recreation activities, and guest hospitality. This role ensures an exceptional camp experience by managing recreational programming for low ropes course, climbing wall, zip line, archery and paintball, supporting ministry efforts, and maintaining high standards of service and safety.
Qualifications: Have a strong commitment to service, hospitality, and safety Be comfortable engaging with diverse groups and speaking to both large and small audiences Possess leadership skills with the ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with a team Be proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Office, email, and internet use Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills Have demonstrated experience with ropes courses and archery Bilingual is a plus
Key Responsibilities: Recreation & Activities: Work with the Camp Director to develop, implement, and regularly update recreation activity policies and procedures Conduct weekly inspections of recreation amenities, maintain asset logs, and report issues promptly Facilitate inspections, repairs, and inventory in coordination with third-party vendors Oversee recreation schedules and coordinate staff coverage with department managers and Administrative Coordinator Review and process amenity requests, collaborating with the Administrative Coordinator or adjustments Maintenance of small recreation activities throughout camp, maintaining volleyball court, meadow games, basketball and pickleball court, a high quality game room and more to the highest standard
Hospitality & Guest Service: Prepare the camp for guest groups and serve as the primary camp host, ensuring a warm welcome and a positive first impression Interact with a diverse array of guest groups with a high standard of hospitality and positive solution-oriented mindset Participate in camp startup and shutdown procedures Assist the Camp Director in hosting guest speakers, VIP visitors, and camp tours Participate in an after-hours on-call program to support on-site guests
Ministry Support: Maintain chapel and worship spaces, including preparing Mass kits, cleaning elements, and managing inventory Assist the Program Director in planning and facilitating Family Camps, Youth Camps, Senior Retreats, and Confirmation programs as needed
Facilities & Equipment: Set up in-house AV systems for guest groups Maintain and organize AV inventory, ensuring timely repairs and replacements Communicate maintenance needs to Facilities and Food Service Managers
Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure compliance with OSHA, ACCT and local, state, and federal regulations Monitor guest activities, buildings, and grounds to mitigate liability risks Adhere to HR policies and procedures, including incident reporting
Cross Departmental Support: Support the facilities and grounds department with repair, maintenance and upkeep of camp landscape and buildings Participate in repairs and upgrades of recreation amenities
Additional Responsibilities: Attend staff meetings, ministry events, and training sessions, including occasional off-site and weekend commitments Perform other duties as assigned to support camp operations
Work Environment & Requirements: Indoor and outdoor work environments with occasional lifting (up to 50 lbs.), bending, standing, and moderate physical activity Minimal travel to San Diego; reliable transportation required
