Food Service Supervisor
The Food Service Supervisor will demonstrate Christian hospitality in meeting the physical needs of guest and staff with appealing and nourishing meals at all camps and retreats. Communicate directly with the Operations Director, Program Director, and Guest Group Coordinator in planning and carrying out services involving their area of responsibility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (General overview and may not include all details of responsibilities) DUTIES Hire, train, evaluate and supervise cooks, assistant cooks, dining room manager, (when there is no dining room supervisor the list includes: dishwashers, and servers). Supervise summer LIT leaders and interns when they are serving as dining room leaders. Maintain current job description for staff and procedures for all functions in the kitchen. Plan menus, purchase food, supervise food preparation and maintain proper food storage. With the Director, develop and manage the Food Service budget. Obtain approval from the Director for unbudgeted expenses. Maintain the kitchen in a sanitary condition at a level acceptable to health department standards. Work with the Dining Room Supervisor in organizing the serving of food and the service in the dining room. Maintain clean dining room and entry areas. Maintain necessary records for inventory, meal count, meal costs, government programs, etc. Monitor costs and keep food service costs within budget. Be creative in revising and acquiring new recipes to give variety and “special touches” to the menu and to meet expressed desires of the guests. Keep inventory of kitchen supplies, dishes and utensils, and order replacement as needed. Assist in planning additional training sessions for Cooks and Dining Room staff as needed. Perform other related duties as assigned. Work collaboratively with supervisors, coworkers and customers. Conduct that reflects well on CRISTA Ministries and aligns with its mission, vision, Statement of Faith and Christian Community Representative Commitment (CCC). SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Cooks, Assistant Cooks, Dining Room Supervisor, Dishwashers/Servers ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS CHRIST CENTERED Belief that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior Is a committed Christian who is dedicated to continued spiritual growth and development as evidenced through a growing personal walk with God (e.g. daily spiritual rhythms of prayer, fellowship, Bible study, etc). Prayerfully seeks God’s will in their own lives and in their ministry at CRISTA. Engages our ministry including staff and colleagues through prayer, participation in spiritual practices, leading devotionals and other spiritual practices. Affirms, aligns with and supports CRISTA’s Statement of Faith and Christian Community Representative Statement (CCC). Conducts themselves in a manner which reflects well on CRISTA Ministries and aligns with its mission, vision, Statement of Faith and Christian Community Representative Commitment (CCC). Demonstrates the values of a CRISTA leader. EDUCATION High School Diploma or equivalent required Some college preferred Culinary training a plus EXPERIENCE Have a minimum of 2-3 years in the food service industry, bulk production experience such as cafeteria or catering or hospitality / hotel environments preferred Have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a supervisory or food service management Two years of process and system implementation and spiritual or organizational leadership. LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION Washington State Food Worker Card State Approved Additional Food Safety Training (Food Manager Certification)
